Born in Ohio, and raised in Connecticut, artist Lynne Polley has called Florida home for over thirty years. “My mother’s family is from Pensacola, and we would all gather there. I fell in love with the south.” Lynne attended a liberal arts college, and followed with an A.S. Degree in Advertising Design. She has continued her career in graphic design, publishing and painting and has exhibited in numerous solo and group exhibitions across the south and northeast and was the first place winner in the Mt. Dora Paint Out 2015. Lynne currently has a studio in Orlando. Drawn to the beauty you can only find outdoors, she continues to respond to nature and has studied with some of the nations best plein air artists including Morgan Samuel Price, Charlie Hunter, Larry Moore and James Richards.

“I grew up in a very creative family, more music than art, but loud and expressive no doubt!”

Lynne’s great uncle “Woody” Wilkins was a professor of Architecture and Planning at the University of Miami. His primary field of interest was historic architecture, which led him to job assignments with the National Park Service in St. Thomas (Virgin Islands) and with the Historic American Building Survey. The Wilkins Archives was named in recognition of his contributions to the study of historic architecture, primarily Coral Gables and the Venetian Pool in Miami. “I always admired the drawings uncle Woody did while on sabbatical in Venice, Italy.”

Mother Jane was an accomplished photographer, Grandmother, Katherine Polley Day, was an award winning painter, sculptor and mixed media artist and member of the Lyme Art Association until her death at 102.

Father Howard M. Polley, a lifelong violinist, beginning as a child protege at age 8 excepting a position at the Yale Summer School of Music. Later attending Yale on a music scholarship and finishing his education a the Cincinnati Conservatory. Later teaching music in Danbury schools and Mahopac N.Y. and performing with the Connecticut Symphony and private chamber groups.

Artist’s Statement
I have loved painting and drawing almost all my life. I find that I am driven to consistently explore all directions of creating art to achieve my personal best. I love to experiment, and find the camaraderie that my painting community offers such wonderful support. I have been studying plein air for the past seven years, and find that I see the world quite differently. Finding beauty in the ordinary, what we pass by daily without noticing, are the most interesting to me. I work primarily in oils, large format and small, some varying degrees of abstraction. I currently work as a graphic designer, and have a studio in College Park, in Orlando.
